[Faculty Features] All students refine their English communication ability and professional skills through study abroad

The Faculty of International Studies consists of three departments: the Department of International Liberal Arts, the Department of International Studies, and the Department of International Japan Studies.

In the Department of International Liberal Arts, studying abroad at Showa Boston, the university's overseas campus, is mandatory. The department also encourages students to combine this with a recognized study abroad program ("Boston + Approved Study Abroad"), allowing them to study around the world with the U.S. as a base.

The Department of International Studies focuses on the acquisition of a second foreign language (French, German, Spanish, Chinese, or Korean). All students study abroad in their second year, experiencing different cultures across the globe.

In the Department of International Japan Studies, students study in Boston during their second year and improve their English skills through a carefully designed curriculum unique to Showa Boston. They also study Japanese culture, society, and traditions to develop the ability to effectively communicate and share Japanese culture with the world.

All departments aim to equip students with a high level of language proficiency, strong communication skills, and the ability to apply their language abilities to acquire broader knowledge and specialized expertise through liberal arts and minor programs.
