Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

(1) Those who do not hold Japanese nationality
(2) Those who are able to acquire or renew a residence status that permits mid- to long-term stay under the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act by April 1, 2026 (Applicants for the December and February periods must already possess such a status.)
(3) Those who have completed 12 years of formal education abroad and are eligible for university admission in that country, or those with equivalent qualifications
(4) Those who meet at least one of the following conditions ①–④:
 ① Have taken the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU), “Japanese as a Foreign Language,” and scored 200 points or higher (including the writing section)
 ② Have taken the EJU “Japanese as a Foreign Language,” and scored 180 points or higher (including the writing section), and are recommended by the principal of their Japanese language school or vocational school in Japan (recommendation letter required)
 ③ Have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N2 level or above and can submit the official score report
 ④ Have taken the JLPT N2 level or above, can submit the official score report, and are recommended by the principal of their Japanese language school or vocational school in Japan (recommendation letter required)
