The Graduate School of Economics established its Master’s Degree Program in 1982 and Doctoral Degree Program in 1985. The graduate programs aim at fostering qualified specialists who can respond to various issues arising in today’s rapidly changing society, especially at educating specialists and researchers who can build creative theories and conduct outstanding applied analysis. As a result, our graduates have been making great contributions as highly regarded specialists in economics at research institutions, as high school teachers and government officials, and at private enterprises.
Nurturing highly skilled professionals capable of practical economic analysis.
Ryukoku University’s Graduate School of Economics boasts a large number of faculty members with advanced and cutting-edge research capabilities, and we are fully committed to applying this expertise to cultivate professionals equipped with practical abilities. The societal role of graduate schools today extends beyond simply training researchers; it also involves developing highly skilled professionals capable of helping to solve various challenges in the global society in fields such as business and public administration. The Graduate School of Economics has consistently produced doctoral degree recipients every year for the past five years, demonstrating a strong record in cultivating researchers. At the same time, our master's program focuses on developing human resources equipped with practical economic analysis skills that are increasingly in demand in the real world.
The English-based Degree Program of the Graduate School of Economics teaches the entire master's program in English.
In addition to international students receiving scholarships from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japanese government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology), this program will be open to privately financed students from September 2025.

In the Comprehensive Economics Program, all students develop practical research skills in economics through required coursework. Based on their individual research themes, students also choose a primary and secondary field of study from the three available areas―"Theory, Thought, and History," "Policy and Application," and "International and Civil Affairs"―and complete a structured curriculum accordingly.
This program is a master's degree program in Asian and African area studies. Students will study about contemporary society, particularly Asian and African societies, from both an international (relations among nations) and a people-to-people (relations among peoples) perspective.
