The Graduate School of Economics established its Master’s Degree Program in 1982 and subsequently its Doctoral Degree Program in 1985. The graduate program aims at fostering qualified professionals who can respond to various issues arising in today’s rapidly changing society, especially at educating specialists and researchers who can build creative theories and conduct outstanding applied analysis, as well as developing highly skilled professionals. As a result, our graduates have been making great contributions as highly regarded economic experts at research institutions, as high school teachers and government officials, and as specialists in private enterprises.

Ryukoku University’s Graduate School of Economics boasts a large number of faculty members with advanced and cutting-edge research capabilities, and we are fully committed to applying this expertise to cultivate professionals equipped with practical abilities. The societal role of graduate schools today extends beyond simply training researchers; it also involves developing highly skilled professionals capable of helping to solve various challenges in the global society in fields such as business and public administration.The Graduate School of Economics has produced a large number of doctoral degree recipients to date, demonstrating a strong record in cultivating researchers. At the same time, our master's program focuses on developing human resources equipped with practical economic analysis skills that are increasingly in demand in the real world.
The English-based Degree Program of the Graduate School of Economics teaches the entire master's program in English.
In addition to international students receiving scholarships from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japanese government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology), this program has been open to privately financed students since September 2025.

Off-campus training(Tokushima)
By comprehensively studying economic theory, policy, and history, the program aims to cultivate individuals equipped with both economic analytical skills and policy-making abilities, who can actively contribute across research institutions, government agencies, and the business sector.
This master’s degree program is dedicated to Asian and African area studies. Jointly operated by the Graduate Schools of Economics, Law, and International Studies, the program enables students to enhance their interdisciplinary research capabilities.
Since September 2020, we have offered a permanent master’s degree program taught entirely in English for MEXT scholarship students and JICA scholars from abroad. Furthermore, in September 2025, the program expanded its admissions to include privately financed international students.
