Founded as a private academy in 1869, Ritsumeikan University (RU) boasts 14 colleges and 20 graduate schools across 4 campuses in Kyoto, Shiga and Osaka.

Chukyo University is planning to set up new department called GLS (Global Liberal Studies) in 2020 academic year, which is an undergraduate programs taught in English.
GLS is an interdisciplinary major that helps students acquire the broad skills and knowledge of the social sciences and humanities needed to become independent thinkers, lifelong learners, and responsible global citizens in a rapidly changing world. The major is fully English-medium instruction (EMI), in which all classes are content-based and taught by professors from various academic fields within the humanities and social sciences. Thus students must already have English as their first or second language as a foundation for successful study in the program.
The Global Studies offers a World Language Program whereby GLS students earn 40 or more credits for Japanese language education. Our program is designed for students who have never learned Japanese language or are at a beginner's level to understand Japanese linguistic structures and learn useful daily expressions and basic phrases step by step. By the time they graduate, they will be able to comprehend short articles written for native Japanese speakers and to communicate orally according to situations and types of people in conversation. Specifically, the goal is to reach Level N2 or N1 in Japanese-Language Proficiency Test.
Founded as one of Japan's seven imperial universities, Kyushu University has a proud tradition dating back to 1911. The International University of Japan (IUJ) aims to cultivate future global leaders capable of finding practical solutions to the various global issues facing the world. With the support from the economical and educational communities, as well as the local Niigata community, IUJ was founded in 1982 as the nation's first graduate school in which all courses are offered in English. Since its inception IUJ has implemented a September enrollment system, opening its doors to students from around the globe. The University of Tsukuba traces its roots back to a teacher-training school which opened in 1872. This was followed by the opening of the Tokyo University of Education in 1949, and in 1973 the university was relocated and took its current name, re-founded with the aim of building an academic community that extends across Japan and throughout the world.
Dr. Jigoro Kano, who is known as the founder of Judo, served as the principal of the Higher Normal School and the Tokyo Higher Normal School, which were the predecessors of Tsukuba University, for 25 years. He advocated the philosophies of "Maximum Efficiency with Minimum Effort" and "Mutual Welfare and Benefit", as well as various educational initiatives such as realizing personal growth through the practice of Judo, the expansion of school education throughout Japan, the active intake of international students, and the development of sports education in Japan. Dr. Kano's vision revealed not just an education plan for his students, but a model of education for universities in general for nurturing the talents of students and for bringing Japan to prominence on the global stage.
The University of Tsukuba counts among its alumni both Nobel Laureates and Olympic gold medalists. Nobel Laureates include former President of the university Dr. Shin-Itiro Tomonaga and former President of the University of Tsukuba Dr. Leo Esaki (winners of the Nobel Prize in Physics) and Professor Emeritus Dr. Hideki Shirakawa (winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry). In the Olympic Games, Sawao Kato (a professor emeritus of the University) won twelve Olympic medals including eight gold medals between 1968 and 1976 in artistic gymnastics. In recent years, Ayumi Tanimoto won gold medals in Judo at two consecutive Olympics. Those associated with Tsukuba have won a total of sixty-three medals at the Olympics.

Hiroshima Jogakuin University was founded as Hiroshima Jogakkai in 1886 (in the 19th year of the Meiji Era) by a devout Christian, Rev Teikichi Sunamoto. He invited a missionary, Miss Nannie B. Gaines, to be the first principal. She was assisted by the Methodist Episcopal Church, located in the southern United States. Since then, Hiroshima Jogakuin University has been fostering an attitude of pacifism and humanity based on Christian principles. "Human education based on Christianity" is our founding spirit.

Located in central Tokyo, TUJ is the branch campus of Temple University in Philadelphia, USA. TUJ is Japan's largest and oldest foreign university. All courses are taught in English and adhere to the same high standards as the main Temple University campus. TUJ was founded in 1982 and designated as the first Foreign University, Japan Campus by the Japanese Ministry of Education in 2005.

Yokohama National University (YNU) seeks adventurous, world-class students for the YOKOHAMA Creative-City Studies (YCCS) program. The program will offer innovative interdisciplinary courses for future leaders. The classes will be taught in English, but students will also learn the Japanese language intensively during their studies. Through the program, the students are expected to develop key skills for global leaders such as multilingual and cross-cultural communication, teamwork, leadership, project planning and organizing, as well as to acquire professional knowledge in their major subjects.
