The Faculty of Humanities and Culture is comprised of the Department of Japanese Language and Literature, focusing on the study of Japan's language and culture, and the Department of History and Culture, focusing on the study of history, art, and archeology of both Japan and the world as a whole. These broadly diverse areas of study offer students opportunities to focus on a specialization that match their interests. Furthermore, classes from both departments can be combined in a crossover program.
The Department of Japanese Language and Literature in the Faculty of Humanities and Culture has the longest history of any department in Showa Women's University. Many international students join this department, where Japan's language and culture can be studied from various viewpoints.
In addition to improving one's Japanese language skills, students can also learn to teach Japanese as a foreign language, which many students use to become teachers of Japanese back in their home countries.
Pursuing studies in linguistics, Japanese literature, and Japanese language education
Hands-on, experiential studies in history, culture, art, and archeology
This department's curriculum equips students with strong fundamentals and provides specialized studies in Japanese language and literature.
Students can deepen their knowledge of Japanese in 3 fields. In "Japanese Literature", literature from ancient texts to modern works are studied.
