The Setagaya Campus is home to the Faculties of Engineering and Knowledge Engineering, and is also known as the Techno-Green Campus. Rooted in a long history of tradition and achievement, the campus is furnished with the latest facilities and equipment for carrying out advanced engineering education and research. A new generation of engineers with an appreciation of the Earth’s environment are studying here.
The Atomic Energy Research Laboratory was established in 1960 to study peaceful applications of atomic energy. It is surrounded by nature in the Tama Hills of Ozenji in Asao Ward in Kawasaki City. Unfortunately, cooling water was found to be leaking from the reactor core's tank in December of 1989, and atomic power generation operations were suspended. In May of 2003, the policy for the abolishment of the atomic reactor was finalized, and measures were implemented for its decommissioning. In 2006 all used nuclear fuel was returned to the Unites States.
While the reactor has been decommissioned, all buildings and facilities apart from the atomic energy reactor remain. Work related to managing the safety of the atomic reactor facilities and radiation-handling facilities continues, and faculty, staff, and graduate students involved in the study of atomic science continue to engage in unique education and research activities using radiation, experimental facilities, measurement equipment and other tools.
This center was designed as a reliable information platform that offers advanced information systems and ongoing support for the diverse needs of its users. There are 4 computer classrooms (with a total of 140 computers), with facility access managed using IC cards (student and faculty IDs). Networking ports and wireless LAN access points are installed throughout the campus so students can link their computers and portable devices to the campus network.
