As members of a global community, future scientists and technologists will need a clear vision not only of their special field but also of the society which they belong to. They will need to take into account issues of human development and of harmonious coexistence with people and nature. As the Faculty's campus is also home to liberal arts courses, students can actively participate in non-science courses that can help to develop their value systems and improve their understanding of people, societies, and the environment. Class sizes are kept small, so that students can communicate closely with their instructors as they pursue their chosen field of science, beginning with basics and then continuing on to more advanced study.

The objective of this department is to research “materials and life” in the natural world, recycle natural resources, and create new materials and functions. Here we make a comprehensive and integrated study of traditional fields such as physics, chemistry, biology, environment, and materials engineering, while learning the basics of materials, from atomic/macromolecular materials to biological phenomena. Such studies will be useful in advancing industry and protecting the environment.
Green Science program, offered by Department of Materials and Life Sciences, is designed to train the student on the fundamentals of chemistry and biology and to apply this knowledge to overcome environmental issues.
The objective of this department is the creation of new functions through the discovery of new physical phenomena or of new applications. Mathematics, physics, mechanical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering and other traditional studies are organically combined to create and design new functions. Our overarching goal is to use the cross-disciplinary knowledge created by the integration of science and engineering, and to balance industrial technology and hard sciences to serve people while protecting the environment.

The Department of Information and Communication Sciences cultivates the ability to systematically organize “knowledge” and break down, analyze, and integrate information to make it useful, as well as the ability to organically combine information into appropriate forms that help people and societies. Through the knowledge, wisdom, and experience contained in information, we can deepen the understanding of people and the society we live in. In this program emphasis is placed on a multi-disciplinary approach that links human and social sciences with the hard sciences.
