Keio University SFC Open Campus (Thursday, July 30, 2015)
The SFC Open Campus invites all prospective students interested in SFC to experience the university through activities such as mock lectures and campus tours. This year, Open Campus will be held on Thursday, July 30.
A GIGA Program mock lecture, campus tours in English given by current students, and a Q&A corner set up to answer questions regarding admissions, etc., will be available for those interested in the GIGA Program.
Some activities of the Open Campus will be conducted in Japanese, and some in English.
Activities to be conducted in English (tentative)
1. Introduction to the GIGA Program & Mock Lecture
Ω (Omega) Bldg., classroom 12 1:30–2:10 p.m.
Mock Lecture Title: Sorting It All Out: Classical and Quantum Computers
Content: We are running out of computing power. Or, more correctly, our computers have mostly stopped getting faster, but we would still have problems we’d like to solve that need faster computers. A hot new topic in the research world is “quantum computers”, which might solve some problems faster. What problems? How much faster? We will talk about this using the example of sorting lots of data. This session will be interactive, come and join the sort!
2. Campus Tour (by current students)
Gather in front of the Media Center (Times are subject to change)
11:00–11:40 a.m., 11:50 a.m.–0:30 p.m., 0:40–1:20 p.m., 1:30–2:10 p.m.
3. Q&A Corner (Staff and current students)
