The college aims to develop students’ logical-thinking and problem-solving capabilities by equipping them with basic knowledge and perspectives of natural science. By doing so, it provides students with the ability to excel in today’s knowledge-oriented society, where knowledge is the most important key resource.
Mathematics, a most fundamental discipline that has been developed since the time of ancient Greece, has contributed to the development of contemporary social sciences, such as computer science and statistical mathematics. Small classes enable students to study a broad range of subjects intensely, ranging from algebra, geometry, and mathematical analysis to computer science and mathematical physics.
Physics, the discipline of discovering theories in natural phenomena, covers a vast area of study, ranging from the universe itself down to its minimum components, including particles, nuclei, atoms, and molecules. Students will start by studying introductory materials and then move progressively to the latest research topics in order to develop their physics sensibilities and enhance their logical thinking through extensive experimentation.
The mission of chemistry is to uncover the principles of reactions that transform substances and to produce substances that have new functions by the application of such principles. By offering a curriculum that emphasizes experimentation and instructions focused on the interests of individual students, the department aims to help students accurately understand the properties and reactions of substances, starting with the fundamentals of the discipline.
All organisms are made of cells, and those cells are made of molecules. Focusing on the three disciplines of molecular biology, biochemistry, and molecular and cellular biology, students will learn about the living nature of cells; study advanced topics in life science, including the current state of development in this constantly evolving field and the potential of applied technologies therein; and explore the question of what it means to be alive.
