About Graduate School of Engineering

The Graduate School of Engineering has established a unique engineering education and research system called “Flexible Graduate School System” to adapt to greater sophistication and diversity in the field of engineering. In this system, two groups, the so-called “Ryoiki Senko Group; Departments associated with the traditional fields of engineering” and the “Fukugo Senko Group; Departments associated with the interdisciplinary fields of engineering” are well combined to build a successful interdisciplinary field based on a solid foundation in the traditional engineering disciplines.

Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (Disciplinary Departments)

Recently, various products such as medicine and biomaterial are important for our health and wealthy life. Also, environment conservation and recycling of used products are common issue for all humanity. Chemistry is the base for the researches and the educations in this course, which cover development of new materials, products and energy production system.

Materials, Physics and Energy Engineering (Disciplinary Departments)

The Materials, Physics and Energy Engineering course aims to develop future material, physics and energy sources. The students will have opportunity to learn wide field of engineering and science such as “advanced materials” and “characteristics and phenomena observed in new functional materials”. Much of the research and education is done in cooperation with the interdisciplinary courses and research centers.

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Disciplinary Departments)

The Electrical Engineering and Computer Science course covers extensive areas in electronic engineering such as energy, device, electronics, computer, and communication that are indispensable to contemporary life. The course offers various programs including classroom subjects, seminars on special topics, and thesis research, which provide students with scientific and technological knowledge, and the ability to conduct research in their field of study.

Mechanical Science and Engineering (Disciplinary Departments)

The purpose of the Mechanical Science and Engineering course is to cultivate scientists and engineers who can create innovative devices and systems in the fields of thermal and fluid engineering, strength of materials and material properties, dynamics and kinetics of machinery, measurement and control, computational engineering and information engineering, CAD and CAM, and workshop technology for production.

Aerospace Engineering (Disciplinary Departments)

Aerospace Engineering course consists of two major laboratories for studying "Aerodynamics and Propulsion" and "Structure and Control". This department focuses the research efforts on new technological developments of aircraft, rockets, and satellites based on fluid dynamics, propulsion energy system engineering, ionized gas dynamics, structural mechanics, aerospace vehicle dynamics, and control systems engineering.

Civil Engineering (Disciplinary Departments)

The Department of Civil Engineering allows students to develop their careers from wide range of selections. Students with a strong background in humanities may study urban problems and land policy from the viewpoint of economics, or adopt the historical knowledge to landscape conservation. Students with a strong background in science may study design of bridges, or develop disaster prevention technologies to protect human life, property and industry.

Crystalline Materials Science (Interdisciplinary Departments)

The Crystalline Materials Science course covers an extensive area of crystalline materials science such as crystal growth, leading edge characterization methods, physics and chemistry of materials, and applications. The educational program is designed to help students acquire a wide range of knowledge covering all related fields in crystalline materials engineering from basic science to applications.

Energy Engineering and Science (Interdisciplinary Departments)

The Energy Engineering and Science course aims to meet the increasing demands for advanced researches and educations concerning energy sources and new energy technologies, emphasizing on nuclear fusion engineering, plasma engineering, chemical engineering, multi-phase flow and their science. Abundant researches are provided, including fusion related to plasma science and nuclear science, new energy systems, thermal engineering, and superconducting engineering

Quantum Engineering (Interdisciplinary Departments)

The Quantum Engineering course focuses on cross-disciplinary engineering fields based on quantum mechanics. It carries out scientific researches for developing new technology in nanostructure analysis, quantum beam engineering, nanoelectronics, superconducting and spin devices by artificially controlling quantum effects.

Micro-Nano Systems Engineering (Interdisciplinary Departments)

Micro-Nano Systems Engineering course targets the fabrication of novel mechanical systems which are more integrated, sophisticated and intelligent based on the production of the new functional material, and their fabrication and control.

Molecular Design and Engineering (Interdisciplinary Departments)

Molecular Design and Engineering department aims to meet increasing demands for advanced research and education in molecular design and engineering. The department offers programs of study and research in the major areas of biomaterials design, molecular assembly systems, polymer materials design, chemical physics of condensed matters, material science for environments, solid state materials, and multi-scale powder technology.

Computational Scence and Engineering (Interdisciplinary Departments)

Research and education in the Computational Science and Engineering course focuses on the development of mathematical methodologies and algorithms to solve the problems faced when modeling and simulating complicated phenomena observed in the real world. The research field also includes development of software and hardware to provide multi-purpose high-level computing environments.
