The guiding principle of the Faculty of Science and Technology is to use the interaction of science, which seeks to understand the essence of things, with engineering, which seeks to apply those discoveries, to develop education and research that leads to the creation of new science and technology. Based on this principle, the Faculty of Science and Technology seeks to equip students with the ability to make discoveries on their own (“How to discover it!”) as well as solve problems on their own (“How to solve it!”). The year 2017 will mark the 50th anniversary of the Faculty of Science and Technology. Looking ahead to the next 50 years, the vision for the future is “A Faculty of Science and Technology which Seeks RESONANCE,” and it will be put into practice via highly diverse, cross-departmental applied and basic research.
The Department of Mathematics employs a wide range of faculty, covering areas from pure mathematics to applied mathematics. In 3rd and 4th years students are placed in small-group seminar workshops to foster deeper understanding of topics and a more flexible thinking ability. The Noda Campus is equipped with all the resources students need to conduct satisfying and worthwhile research, including a unique library, seminar rooms and a computer science laboratory.
The Noda Campus is equipped with extensive research facilities, including a laser research center and laboratories for research into super-conductivity. Joint research is also being carried out at a national research facility in Tsukuba Science City. Graduate students take on the role as assistants for physics experiments, providing students with thorough guidance and support. Special lectures are also scheduled so that students can listen to researchers at the very forefront of the physics field.
This Department offers a mathematics-strong curriculum that brings together the 3 mutually related fields of basic mathematical information, applied mathematical information and computer science, ensuring students acquire a deep and balanced understanding of these disciplines. Basic mathematical information deals with how ‘information’ is mathematically related to various natural, societal and human phenomena. In applied mathematics students learn the applications of mathematics to practical problems, while computer science equips students with understanding in information processing systems.
With the latest facilities and a student-friendly and systemized curriculum that respects students’ individuality and independence, this Department aims to nurture creative individuals in the field of applied biological science. Students in their 1st year take both core and specialist courses as well as attend lectures that value the relationship between students and specialist researchers. Another feature of this Department is the high ratio of female students.
From the 1st year students take a selection of core architecture subjects to ensure they acquire a well-rounded understanding of the field. Students also obtain the computer skills necessary to keep up with future technological advancements in each specialist discipline. In design education we invite a number of guest lecturers and architects to the University to give individual guidance to students with regards to design and architecture.
This Department puts a lot of emphasis on experiments and practical exercises. The vast campus is equipped with outstanding facilities for students to carry out experiments, including equipment for large-scale experiments. Up until the 3rd year students study in small-group classes that focus on one-to-one education. Through special lectures held by researchers and engineers at the forefront of their field, and carrying out experiments in the experiment labs, students acquire solid academic understanding and experiment technique that they can utilize when conducting their graduation research.
One of the main features of this department is that students can study an array of specialties that span the three genres of electronics outlined above. While students do choose one of these three courses, they can still freely take subjects from other courses. Depending on subject selection, some students will be exempt from a portion of their subjects if they take the national examination for Electro-Communications Technician or Level 1 Technical Radio Operator for On-The-Ground Services. This will open the door for obtaining qualifications as First Class Electrical Engineer, Level 1 On-The-Ground Special Radio Operator and Level 3 Maritime Special Radio Operator.
In their 1st and 2nd years students develop a thorough understanding of the basic skills of management science through core subjects and practical exercises. In their 3rd year students choose more highly specialized courses and start taking small-group seminar classes in the research labs, with comprehensive and methodical guidance from faculty. In their final year students hone their practical skills through the completion of graduation research, learning valuable skills that can be put to use out in the workforce.

A diverse range of research is conducted in our labs and it is here that students acquire the specialist knowledge and technical skills that will set them up to succeed in a variety of different fields.

Civil engineering is a discipline that works closely with and supports the construction business, and is indispensable to the fields of social infrastructure planning, maintenance and environmental preservation.
