Understanding the Values of Lake Biwa & Moving Towards a Sustainable Society
A joint lecture series held by Ryukoku University and Shiga Prefecture

’Lake Biwa Day 40 Year Anniversary’ – Interactions between people and Lake Biwa

Continuing on from last year, Ryukoku University is holding an online lecture series 'Lake Biwa Day – Joint Lecture Series with Shiga Prefecture’ as part of the July 1st Lake Biwa Day project. Under the topic 'Lake Biwa Day 40 Year Anniversary - Interactions between people and Lake Biwa’, three lectures will be held to re-examine the various values of, and issues relating to, Lake Biwa.

This series aims to further inform people around Japan about the value of Lake Biwa and the Yodo River basin area and what part we, as individuals, can play in creating a sustainable society. The lectures will introduce Ryukoku University’s latest research findings regarding a number of facets related to Lake Biwa.
These lecture series have been held for five years and are based on the cooperation agreement that Ryukoku University entered into with Shiga Prefecture in October, 2015.

Note: July 1st was designated ‘Lake Biwa Day’ by the prefecture based on the Shiga Prefecture Basic Environmental Ordinance.
