Empowering the Individual

Meiji University was founded in January 1881 as the Meiji Law School by a group of young lawyers barely in their 30's: Tatsuo Kishimoto, Kozo Miyagi, and Misao Yashiro.
Now the University ranks solidly among the best universities in Japan, currently consisting of 9 Schools and 9 Graduate Schools. There are also independent schools in various disciplines, including the Law School and professional graduate schools. The University also boasts the Meiji University Junior High School and Meiji University High School.
Its graduates are more than half a million and many of them are highly active internationally.
Meiji University, under the spirit of empowering the individuals, aims to make dramatic advances into the world as the top university in Japan.
