Toyo University has long tradition, and the predecessor of it is “Private Academy of Philosophy” founded by a philosopher, Dr. Enryo Inoue on 1887. The motto of the foundation is “all knowledge is grounded in philosophy”, and the words should be understood “philosophy is the basis of all studies with the fundamental view of values”. In the present society which diversifies, “human powers” like the ability to find and solve problems, the leadership, the capacity of teamwork and the sense of cooperation are demanded as well as academic knowledge. Toyo University performs education to respond these tasks by making the philosophy education to be a big pillar to support it.
Reaching 125th anniversary of the foundation at 2012, Toyo University prepares original programs and copes with training talents to have both of academic knowledge and human powers with the 3 key words, “Philosophy Education”, “Globalization” and “Career Preparation”. On the side of study, the university has 6 research institutes and 12 research centers, and especially on the fields of biotechnology, nanotechnology and PPP (Public Private Partnership) the university gets high evaluation globally. In addition, the university establishes “International Research Center for Philosophy” on this year, and the activities to utilize intellect characteristic of the university are highly expected. Toyo University will develop activities of study and research fixing eyes on tasks of the present era, try for contribution to society, and go forward to a university with world-class competences.
