Osaka University continues to renew itself, breathing new life into all of its affairs, using the recent changes in Japan's system of university education as a particularly special opportunity to do so. After the merger with Osaka University of Foreign Studies on October 1, 2007, the university now consists of 11 Schools, 16 Graduate Schools, 5 Research Institutes, 2 Hospitals, 4 Libraries, 21 Joint-Use Facilities, 3 National Joint-Use Facilities, the WPI Immunology Frontier Research Center, the Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Education, Kaitokudo for the 21st Century, 4 Overseas Centers for Education and Research, and the Osaka University Nakanoshima Center. The three campuses, Suita, Toyonaka, and Minoh, and the Nakanoshima Center occupy a total area of 1,588 million square meter. There are about 9,200 teaching, medical, and administrative staff and 24,750 students including 1,940 international students.
