Ryukoku University’s ‘Staying Connected’ Meal Support Project
In April, a state of emergency was declared to try and prevent the spread of covid-19. While this measure was put in place to help save lives, it had the side effect of leaving a lot of university students struggling. In an effort to support our students during this time, Ryukoku University implemented a meal support project.
Through this project nearly 6,000 thousand domestic and international students across three campuses (Fukakusa, Omiya and Seta), received a total of around 52,000 meals. Meals were offered on 25 separate occasions and were free the first time and 1,000 yen after the State of Emergency was lifted. In addition to offering students meal support, the University also assisted economically by directly hiring and paying approximately 200 students as delivery staff.
Connecting with and helping each other is the key to overcoming these types of unpredictable difficulties
