Students will acquire fundamental knowledge in a broad range of fields, including economical and political structures, finance, business management and medical and welfare systems. In this era of declining birthrates, an aging population and enhanced IT technologies, the Department aims to cultivate human resources (civil servants, company employees etc.) capable of successfully working towards providing medical and welfare services, both in government sectors and organizations.
As they strive to become economists with a strong understanding of social welfare, students in the Department of Economics will study the fundamentals of economics and their application, the structures of market economies, and management in the areas of sports, social welfare, healthcare and corporations. Through the study of both economics and management, the Department aims to cultivate talented human resources capable of successfully contributing to the design and development of a new welfare society.
We are committed in our pursuit of a more constructive and practical way of learning, adding to the achievements and research and educational resources built up since the Department opened 40 years ago. Currently a lot of our graduates are working at the forefront of local communities, utilizing their knowledge in economics and management and their specialist social welfare mindset.
2 Courses from 2nd year – meeting the career choices of each and every student
In the first year students study the fundamentals of economics and management, before choosing one of two courses to specialize in from their second year. The Local Economics Course is aimed at students planning on becoming civil servants or working in a range of areas such as local finance. The Medical and Healthcare Management Course is for students working towards operational and management positions at medical or social welfare institutions.
