The Department of Science and Technology aims to train highly skilled professionals and productive researchers to understand the structure of the laws of nature and mathematics that governs them and apply the knowledge to contribute to the development and well-being of humanity
Through subjects created for each department along with the acquisition of specialized academic skills, well-balanced courses related to a wide range of themes and interdisciplinary study that is common to all courses are provisioned for flexible training to develop domain boundaries and new fields, not only expertise knowledge of science and engineering but also perspective of science and technology and their relevance to the society.
In addition, we actively promote exchanges with other graduate schools and the world beyond our university’s walls. Programs include a joint graduate school system and mutual credit recognition agreements with other universities.
We also provide cost subsidies for participating in academic conferences and events both nationwide and abroad, a system for recruiting TAs, RAs, and other assistants, and other scholarship programs that provide financial support.
We provide a fulfilling research environment so that graduate students can productively engage in their research.

Within the learning, research, and practice of architecture and urban design, there is urgent demand for the training of highly specialized experts with international perspectives to address issues inherent to regions and problems that cross borders.
On the other hand, in recent years, Japan’s domestic construction industry was exposed to long-term stagnation and a trend of global economic instability.
Looking forward, there is a need to further advance programs that nurture architectural engineers who can excel on the international stage.
In the Graduate School of Science and Engineering’s Department of Architecture at Meiji University, an “International Professional Course” was established in 2013 to train experts who can play an active role internationally. The diversified educational environment is designed for an internationally-diverse student body and with our global society in mind.

In the Department of Electrical Engineering, expertise in electrical engineering is used as a foundation for learning in more specialized subjects in the field. We aim to cultivate highly skilled professional engineers with scientific sensibilities and creativity in a wide range of fields. We expect such individuals will stand out from the rest and establish themselves in leadership positions within various fields.
Advanced research and training in integrated engineering and science built on the broad platform of electrical engineering is conducted to foster researchers and engineers equipped with the expertise and diversification sought after in the field of electrical engineering.
In the Department of Mechanical Engineering, fields of research and technology are configured into groups of main subjects and highly-specialized subjects and peripheral subjects are set to implement practical training and education that is focused on the enrichment of humanity. In this respect, the objective is to train high-level engineers and researchers to acquire a broad range of knowledge and a sense of responsibility and ethics so they can discover and deal with the needs and problems of society, and then solve them.
The goal of the Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering is to train highly-creative and highly-specialized professionals. They will have flexible thinking skills and specialization in certain fields within the discipline of architecture as a whole, and receive practical educational and research guidance that will help them become internationally-minded and capable individuals. In addition, the International Professional Course aims to develop professionals who can deal with challenges comprehensively and practically with a global perspective by providing a highly-sophisticated and world-class education.
Also, in the later term of the doctoral program, the objective is to further enhance the expertise acquired in the master’s program of the earlier term and develop creative researchers and educators who can play a leading role in the real world to carry out advanced and leading-edge research and development.
The objective of the Department of Applied Chemistry is to develop scientists and engineers who have broad perspectives and creativity, and to train them in the fundamentals and advanced applications of chemistry. We implement training through combining the unique features of both scientific and engineering aspects that apply to areas covered by basic and applied chemistry. The curriculum covers an extensive range of topics which not only includes applied technology, but also fundamental science as well. This training is an active response to the needs of chemical industries and aims to develop innovative and capable individuals with flexible thinking skills that are capable of taking an active role in the development of science and technology in the future.
The Department of Basic Science and Engineering aims to train researchers and advanced professionals who have the background knowledge necessary to understand the underlying principles and mathematical laws of nature as applied to various fields of engineering.
The Department of New Frontiers aims to train researchers and advanced professionals that can play an active part in both the existing and unexplored areas of society and contribute to its diverse, complex, and sophisticated progression. This is achieved though the program’s emphasis on the fundamentals of integrated humanities, sciences and cross-disciplinary studies followed by the acquisition of expertise in each area.
