We have recently updated the “History of Ryukoku University” video on our website.
Ryukoku University’s history began in 1639 when it was established as a Buddhist seminary called “Gakuryo” in Nishi-Hongwanji Temple.
Ryukoku University’s history is shown through our joining of hands with others in a commitment to social and regional development.
Even during rapidly changing times and in the face of various challenges, we never wavered from our progressive spirit in our bid to continue developing.
This video also introduces important cultural properties that have become a part of the university’s collection over our long history.
We invite you to watch this video, showcasing not only our past, but also our present and the future we see as we approach our 400th anniversary in 2039.
