Guided by its mission to develop innovative individuals with the basic academic intellect to contribute to society, the College of Engineering has sought to address the overemphasis on knowledge acquisition in conventional university education, and re-developed its teaching to be guided by the question of how rather than simply what to manufacture. The College’s educational policy is based on three stages as described below.
The first stage is to elucidate the purposes of applying engineering and technology in the various areas of the engineering discipline. This requires students to survey the significant breakthroughs and deficiencies in the history of humankind. The second stage is to address the question "why" in order to identify the different stages of social requirement, desire, and specific demand that call for engineering solutions. True professional engineers would not comply unconditionally with all demands: education in our College therefore equips students with insights that enable critical engagement, verification, and implementation. The third stage of our education involves studying the innovative aspects of the question, "how to manufacture?" with a view to fostering creativity.

This general field could be described as the foundations of engineering. Research covers the manufacturing of everything from cars and robots to equipment used in the energy, aerospace, medical care and social welfare industries. Basic science is emphasized while making an effort to incorporate related engineering fields and to achieve harmony with people and society.

Electronic engineering is widely used in the infrastructure of modern society. The Department of Electronic Engineering offers educational programs in conformance with the Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (JABEE) in two specialized fields of study: materials and devices, and intelligent information processing circuits. These programs are designed to develop students’ capacity to respond to continuing advances in electronics in line with changes in industry and wider society.

The aim of civil engineering is to create an enriched and civilized society in which humans coexist in harmony with nature. The educational mission of the Department of Civil Engineering is to foster human resources capable of creating social infrastructure systems that incorporate social science perspectives. The study of civil engineering is approached from a broad perspective as an integrated system, and students are trained to be civil engineering professionals with all-round knowledge and a sense of balance.
