Okayama University boasts one of Japan's largest campuses and has 11 undergraduate faculties and graduate school programs in fields of the humanities and social sciences, natural sciences, environmental sciences, life (medical) sciences, and education. As one of Japan's leading comprehensive universities, Okayama University has approximately 13,400 undergraduate and graduate students, as well as approximately 500 international students and 2,600 faculty and staff.

Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology

In the Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology at Okayama University, we promote the cultivation of scholars equipped with comprehensive skills by deepening each student's understanding of essential, high-level academic concepts, and by providing them with interdisciplinary knowledge that spans many academic fields. To this end, we have built up an educational and research organization that fosters internationally active researchers and specialists who possess comprehensive, interdisciplinary knowledge by facilitating both "functional differentiation" and "collaboration". This is implemented through an integrated and continuous undergraduate-graduate-doctoral program that aims to advance each student's education and research. We also strive to find solutions to scientific and technological issues and contribute to the sustainable development of humanity, the stimulus of regional industrial societies, and the globalization of science and technology.

Division of Mathematics and Physics (Master's Course)

In this division, we cultivate researchers who can be active in their fields globally by cultivating advanced specialized skills and basic research abilities, based on the knowledge earned in their respective undergraduate math and physics studies.

Division of Molecular Sciences (Master's Course)

In this division, we carry out education and research that provides an essential understanding of the structure, properties, and reactions of a wide variety of substances at the molecular level, and reveals the fundamental principles of various chemical behaviors that affect substances. We strive to foster highly creative researchers with sound fundamentals who can carry out front line research and academics that can excel in a variety of fields in society, such as education.

Division of Biological Sciences (Master's Course)

In this division, the structure and function of organisms at the molecular and cellular level are analyzed to reveal the basic principles of biological phenomena, and education and research is held so that students will be able to contribute to the preservation of the Earth's ecology and advance the sustainability of humanity. Graduates of this division will be equipped with a wide-ranging perspective, advanced research skills, and abundant creativity.

Division of Earth Science (Master's Course)

This division focuses on revealing the temporal shifts and spatial construction of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere, and biosphere that make up the Earth, as well as their interacting mechanisms. We aim to cultivate researchers and specialists can attain advanced knowledge and use the latest technologies in their field work.

Division of Mechanical and Systems Engineering (Master's Course)

In this division, students will develop advanced knowledge of mechanical and systems engineering as well as their language and design abilities, and apply them to the planning, design, and production of creations that contain the latest technologies. We aim to foster technicians and researchers essential to the industrial world who possess a high degree of specialization, problem-solving skills, and leadership qualities for the development and application of engineering systems using a broad perspective that integrates the technologies of various fields.

Division of Electronic and Information Systems Engineering (Master's Course)

Students will elevate the fundamental aspects of their specialization, including the academic skills earned in their undergraduate studies, the capacity to challenge oneself, and communication skills. This division aims to foster individuals equipped with specialized knowledge and skills in electrical and electronic engineering, information engineering, communication network engineering, and other related fields so that they may attain the ability to think, solve problems, and carry out research and development with an international perspective.

In this division, starting from basic research of inorganic, organic, and biological molecules, students will proceed to research the development of synthesis and reaction processes, materials science related to optical and magnetic functions, life science related to microorganisms and enzymes, and the application of medical materials and bioengineering. We aim to train researchers, technology developers, and business leaders that can create new things and functionalities useful to society.

In this division, students will deepen and advance their interdisciplinary education and research into complex substances, from the atomic and molecular level to a planetary scale. Studies are organically linked through introductory lectures in material science, the biology of organisms, and planetary sciences that cover Earth and space that aim to explain the chemical behaviors of substances. We also promote basic research into technological developments related to solving the various issues facing humanity, based on deepening our understanding of fundamental principles as well as new principles, as well as research that supports technological development itself.
