In SIT’s Graduate School of Engineering and Science students utilize the knowledge they acquired at the undergraduate level and apply active learning to become self-driven, independent thinkers. Faculty lead by example as they cultivate the inspiration and creativity necessary for students to turn knowledge into technical skill. As society becomes more and more internationalized, the School strives to nurture talented individuals capable of utilizing their vast amounts of knowledge to become successful on the global stage. The School has expanded its global education, and sends students to partner universities in the United States and Europe to participate in Research Exchange Programs for between 3 months and 1 year, accepts exchange students from partner universities in Southeast Asia, and holds some lectures in English.
It is predicted that the innovative fields of electrical engineering and computer science are going to shape the future. In order to nurture talented individuals who can offer rapid responses and successfully tackle issues in this field the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Major combines courses in electrical engineering, communication engineering, electronic engineering and information engineering from the College of Engineering, as well as courses in electronic information systems from the College of Systems Engineering and Science, and design engineering from the College of Engineering and Design. In addition, research supervision is divided into eight specialist fields; 1) materials and devices, 2) circuits and regulation, 3) power and energy, 4) communications, 5) information, 6) information Science, 7) robotics and mechatronics and 8) organisms and biotechnology. This major aims to cultivate talented researchers and highly skilled engineers.
The rapid growth of various industries in recent years has lead to a severity in the demand for materials, and research into materials and their production has become an urgent matter. In this Major students will utilize the fundamental knowledge and applications they acquired at the undergraduate level as a base, connecting it with a broad range of new academic disciplines. This Materials Science and Engineering Major aims to nurture talented individuals who can successfully contribute to the field of materials science and engineering to become future researchers in areas such as manufacturing processes, quality improvement and new material development.
While developments in science and technology have indeed led to a civilization with a wealth of material goods, this has come at the price of global warming and a polluted ecology. The chemical engineering industry is an advanced industry, demanding the development of both materials and substances that place the least burden on our environment during the manufacturing, usage and disposal of goods, as well as technology making it possible to significantly decrease and eliminate the pollution and contaminated materials already excreted into our environment. It has also become increasingly important to develop manufacturing and application technology for renewable energy resources to replace fossil fuels. The Applied Chemistry Major aims to cultivate talented researchers and engineers, sending them forth into the international community with not only a deep understanding of chemistry, but also an advanced scholarly knowledge and skill set in a wide range of areas and the appropriate and flexible judgment skills necessary to solve the issues required by such societies.
This Major is made up of six main fields; 1) Mechanics, materials and processing with nine laboratories, 2) fluid, heat and energy with eight laboratories, 3) control regulation, information and intelligence with 5 laboratories, 4) human engineering and life support with 5 laboratories, 5) design with 4 laboratories, and 6) nano-micro with 4 laboratories. Students of this major become affiliated with one of these 35 laboratories and research and write a master’s thesis.
This Major focuses on the seven main fields of architectural planning, history of architecture, architectural equipment, environmental engineering, architectural construction, civil engineering, industrial engineering and city planning. Students study a broad range of disciplines, giving them a perspective that covers all areas of construction, going beyond the traditional disciplines of just architecture and civil engineering. The Architecture and Civil Engineering Major prepares students to go out and hit the ground running, with skills capable of tackling any task, whether it be in government, design or technological development.
The Systems Engineering and Science Major aims to nurture talented researchers and engineers with strong integrated problem solving skills and the ability to uncover various issues in numerous fields. Students acquire specialist knowledge through taking an array of compulsory, research and major, elective and common subjects, all of which take into consideration the engineering ethics, science and technology, culture, philosophies, society and environment of the various issues of contemporary society and nurture a foundation of systematical thinking and strong background knowledge that transverses multiple disciplines.
