COOL JAPAN in English -- English-based degree program in School of Global Japanese Studies --

This program features a curriculum that concentrates on traditional and modern Japanese culture, as well as Japanese society in the global community, all of which are currently attracting worldwide attention.

School of Global Japanese Studies

The School of Global Japanese Studies focuses on Japanese studies, not only from a traditional perspective but also from a global perspective. The School provides educational and research opportunities related to contemporary Japanese culture, which is currently receiving attention from around the world. The School focuses on educational research of Japanese culture and social systems, based on information extracted from aspects of business, industry and society in Japan, making up the foundation for Japanese culture today.

Application Eligibility (1) Completion of high school (12th year) or equivalent (1) Non-Japanese nationality (dual nationality with Japanese nationality is acceptable)
(2) TOEFL iBT® 80, IELTS™(Academic) 6.0 or above, or Cambridge ESOL Exam(Overall score) 169 or above

* The tests must be taken within 2 years before the day when each application period starts.

* Applicants who cannot submit (2) should meet either one of the following criteria: Scored 500 or above on the Critical Reading AND Writing sections of the Old SAT (both scores must be from the same test day) taken before February 2016, scored 27 or above on the Reading Test AND 28 or above on the Writing and Language Test of the New SAT (both scores must be from the same test day) taken after March 2016, scored 18 or above on the English section of ACT, or have received their primary and secondary education (12 years in principle) in English and are able to provide documentary evidence.

(2) After having completed a 12-year school education in a non-Japanese educational system,

(1) Completed or are expected to complete at least 1st year education at a university (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) by Wednesday, September 19, 2018, or
(2) graduated or are expected to graduate from a college (Associate degree or equivalent) by Wednesday, September 19, 2018.
<Applying for 3rd year>
(1) Completed or are expected to complete at least 2nd year education at an university (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) by Wednesday, September 19, 2018, or
(2) graduated or are expected to graduate from a college (Associate degree or equivalent) by Wednesday, September 19, 2018.

(3) Official standardized test results (SAT, ACT, IB, or EJU)

* New SAT: The Essay Section is optional but it is recommended to be taken.

* EJU: Examination language option: English

Subject: Japan and the World
Only applicants who have non-Japanese nationality (dual nationality with Japanese nationality is acceptable) can submit EJU scores.

* Please note that these are the only accepted official standardized tests (SAT, ACT, IB or EJU).

* Applicants who cannot submit (3) official standardized test results, but are attending or had attended a higher education institution (college: Associate degree or equivalent, or university: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent), please contact the School of Global Japanese Studies Office prior to the application.

(3) TOEFL iBT® 80, IELTS™ (Academic) 6.0 or above, or Cambridge ESOL Exam (Overall score) 169 or above

* Applicants who cannot submit (4) Official standardized test results, but meet the other requirements, please contact the School of Global Japanese Studies Office prior to application.

(5) Hold the following numbers of transferable credits (under Meiji’s accreditation)

<Applying for 2nd year> 30 credits or more
<Applying for 3rd year> 62 credits or more

* The number of transferable credits will be calculated under Meiji's accreditation policy. Please note that all credits may NOT be transferable.

* If applicants for for 3rd year does not meet the credit requirement upon application, they may be placed in 2nd year.
