Setagaya campus

SWU's main campus is located in Tokyo’s Setagaya Ward., The campus holds an educational institutions ranging from kindergarten through university and graduate school, plus a nursery school and a branch of the British School; it also features student residences and cultural facilities such as a world-renowned concert hall and museum.
It offers an environment with plentiful greenery that is easily accessible from Shibuya, Harajuku, Shimo-Kitazawa, Jiyugaoka, Shinjuku, and elsewhere.

Showa Boston Institute for Language and Culture

Showa Boston Institute for Language and Culture, a satellite campus of Showa Women’s University, was established in 1988 and is located in a residential area of Boston, Massachusetts. Over seven hundred students study in Boston annually.

Showa Boston’s primary mission is to increase students’ English proficiency, develop cross-cultural understanding, and foster personal growth while studying American culture, history and current topics. Most programs run from one to three semesters in length. However, two- to four-week short-term programs are also offered to those interested in specific content areas such as nutrition, teaching Japanese and early elementary education. Showa Boston students share Japanese culture, volunteer their time and interact with American university students and the community through various programs and partnerships.

Hitomi Memorial Hall

The Hitomi Memorial Hall is a property that embodies the spirit of the founding of Showa Women’s University. It was built in April, 1980 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the school. With 5 floors and 2 basement levels it has available seating for 2008 people. It has facilities for computer controlled sound and lighting and a very good reputation for the quality of its acoustics. This property is available for rental by outside bodies. Apart from campus related events, classical concerts, Jazz, ballet, performances of classical Japanese performing arts (as part of the Cultural Studies course) are incorporated into the curriculum so it is used not simply as a concert hall but also as a place for the cultivation of aesthetic enrichment.

The Koyo Museum

The Koyo Museum is located on the first floor of the Research Center.
In the Exhibition Room, there are opportunities for presentations of research results in various areas of study on campus and is a place which is helpful in the understanding of research and education materials. In addition, the museum’s activities are helpful as the university is rooted in the local community and exposing society to the exhibitions positions the museum as a place for the dissemination of information to the community. Also the museum offers a place of training in museum affairs necessary for the curator qualification and as a basic part of its operations is responsible for the conservation and management of items related to cultural heritage, educational materials etc.
