The modern civilizations of the 19th and 20th centuries have formed our contemporary culture. During this time the world has witnessed dramatic developments in transport, industry and information technology, as well as growing regional cultural exchange around the globe. We are now in an era where multicultural perspectives have given way to mutual understanding, which has led to increases in travel and tourism, richer experiences and global sports and other events that foster cultural exchange. In the Faculty of Contemporary Cultural Studies students learn about the dynamism of contemporary cultures, studying towards the future in the fields of ‘Comparative Culture’, ‘Tourism and Hospitality’, ‘Sports Culture’ and ‘Sports Career’.
What does it mean to live a genuine life? What is it that people live for? What do we have to do in order to live a better life? We are standing at the threshold of becoming a global society that no longer experiences high-speed growth and this is already demanding a large shift in our sense of values. The Faculty of Contemporary Culture is a forward-thinking faculty that makes students think about propositions that can no longer be avoided, that in the past we didn’t have time to think about and that seemed self explanatory.
The development of infrastructure, communication and publication in modern times has led to higher exposure of, and increased exchange between cultures. This has however, simultaneously led to the issue of how to protect and preserve the richness of our diverse cultures. In addition, the infiltration of sports into our daily lives means we also have to now deal with overcoming both physical and psychological issues. The Faculty of Contemporary Cultural Studies is made up of 4 courses that explore these problems and issues.
Students study in small teacher-centered seminar-type classes, as well as large lecture classes.
Students in the Sports Culture Program will take part in practical hands-on classes using a variety of actual training equipment. Students also have free access to state-of-the art training machines.
In the 4th year students write a graduation thesis that is a compilation of 4 years of research and student life.
In this course students will learn about culture from a variety of perspectives, nurturing an international mindset with which to view the world around them. While acquiring language-focused communication skills, students will also aim to further deepen their mutual understanding of cultures from different regions and countries around the globe. Students will use familiar subject material to learn more about both their own culture and the culture of others.
The Tourism and Hospitality Program cultivates people aiming to go in one of two main directions. People wanting to work directly in tourism as tour conductors or hotel staff etc, and people wanting to create tourism destinations and revitalize local communities by becoming civil servants, volunteers or working for an NPO.
Students will study the cultural aspects of sports, learning about its significance and the various ways in which it is enjoyed by different cultures, researching it in its multifaceted entirety and not just sports as a means of exercise and competition. This course aims to foster educators and instructors capable of contributing to the development of sport as an integral part of our culture.
In this course students will become well educated in the field of sports, learning from a broad range of academic disciplines covering the humanities and social sciences. Through participation in sports programs aimed at nurturing strong team building and management skills, this course aims to foster individuals capable of using these leadership skills in a broad range of social settings.
