The helpful and experienced teachers will help you improve your Japanese at your own level. We offer a wide range of classes from level N5 of the JLPT to students hoping to enter graduate schools in Japan. There are two courses offered in the program; the "General Japanese Course" where students can study the language comprehensively, and the "Graduate School Course" which is designed to enhance the abilities necessary for entrance examinations and research at the graduate school level. The course and level which students are placed in is decided by a placement examination at the beginning of each semester. In principle, students will finish one level each semester and move on to the next level in the following semester.
In principle, the length of the Japanese Language Program (JALP) for foreign students is 1 year, and a completion certificate will be issued to students who successfully complete all requirements. However, it is also possible to register for a single semester and receive only a level certificate. Students may also opt to extend their stay and study in the program for up to 2 years. The General Japanese Course consists of 6 levels; Lower Beginner Level N5, Upper Beginner Level N4, Lower Intermediate Level N3, Upper Intermediate Level N2, Lower Advanced Level N1, and Upper Advanced Level N1S. For students hoping to enter graduate schools the Graduate School Course offers many different classes covering necessary skills. The tuition fee is 295,000 yen for a semester, and an admission fee and insurance fee are also required at the start of the program.
Mejiro University offers a ‘Graduate School Course’ for foreign students wanting to enroll at a graduate school in Japan. Students must have N1 of the Japanese language proficiency test and be either a graduate of an overseas university, an exchange student at a Japanese university or enrolled at a vocational college. The classes include; Technical Reading (thesis, essay / reports / books), Technical Expression (vocabulary, grammar, style of writing, composition), Technical Writing (reports, resumes / research design / research reports), Technical Listening (lectures / news / broadcasting), and Technical Oral Expression (debates / communication skills / presentations). All classes are designed to prepare students not only for graduate school entrance examinations but also for the skills necessary to attend classes and complete research at the graduate school level.
The Japanese Language Program (JALP) for foreign students has supervising teachers assigned to each class.
Students can study Japanese language at various levels in the General Japanese Course.
