One of the top research universities in Japan

Osaka University continues to renew itself, breathing new life into all of its affairs, using the recent changes in Japan's system of university education as a particularly special opportunity to do so. After the merger with Osaka University of Foreign Studies on October 1, 2007, the university now consists of 11 Schools, 16 Graduate Schools, 5 Research Institutes, 2 Hospitals, 4 Libraries, 21 Joint-Use Facilities, 3 National Joint-Use Facilities, the WPI Immunology Frontier Research Center, the Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Education, Kaitokudo for the 21st Century, 4 Overseas Centers for Education and Research, and the Osaka University Nakanoshima Center. The three campuses, Suita, Toyonaka, and Minoh, and the Nakanoshima Center occupy a total area of 1,588 million square meter. There are about 6,082 teaching, medical, and administrative staff and 23,421 students including 2,094 international students.

Student life support

Scholarship and Financial Aid

We have many scholarships offered by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), private institutions and so on.

In addition, outstanding students and those in financial difficulties may have the chance to be granted an enrollment fee waiver as well as a tuition fee waiver.

Housing and Dormitory

All students of International College will be given priority access to International House for their first year.

From the second year, students will be responsible for finding their own place to live. Many rooms are available at a low price in the vicinity of the campus.

Consulting Services in English or Other Languages Available

Consulting services about living in Japan or concerns on study in English
or other language available at Osaka University.

Center for International Education and Exchange (CIEE) offers counseling service on campus.

The Center also has a variety of extracurricular activity groups: ones for short trips and events such as rice-cake making (mochitsuki) for increasing understanding of Japanese culture and history, and parties with local residents and Japanese students.

Career Support

Center for International Education and Exchange (CIEE) offers advice on job
searches while providing guidance on preparing resumes and job interview tips.

In addition, CIEE holds explanatory sessions on companies and employment for international students. These sessions are very popular.

One-stop assistance on visa and other necessary procedures

The Support office offers various types of assistance for international students, scholars and their families before and after their arrival in Japan. We offer assistance on visa procedures, with the search for accommodations, and other necessary procedures after their arrival.

The primary goal of the Support Office is to create good links with the international students, scholars and the faculty staff at Osaka University, and also to help make their lives easier and more comfortable, so that they can concentrate fully on their academic activities throughout the duration of their stay in Japan.
