Maxmizing Your Potential at Matsuyama University

 Matsuyama University was established in 1923, the oldest private university in the Shikoku region. Each year, approximately 6,000 students are enrolled including the students from Matsuyama Junior College and Matsuyama University’s Graduate Schools. There are nearly 70,000 alumni of the institution in its 90 years of history.
 Our educational philosophy is derived from the founding principles of “Truthful, Useful and Faithful”. We take pride in our tradition of producing highly motivated, talented graduates. We also have special features of the high employability of our graduates, our contribution to society, extracurricular, and the bond between faculty members and students. Student life support

Tuition reduction

All self-financed international students in undergraduate and postgraduate programs can apply for tuition reduction. The reduction rate (100%, 50%, 30%) will be determined by their transcripts, financial situations, and other conditions.


Matsuyama University provides scholarships for self-financed international students. An applicant must be a first-year undergraduate, postgraduate, or transfer student. There are other scholarships available for international students as well as exchange students.

International events

We promote international exchange including cultural experience between mainly international and Japanese (tutor) students through bowling games, bus tours or other activities.

Private interview

We arrange private interviews for students with unfavorable attendance or grades.

Tutor Arrangement

Japanese students at Matsuyama University become tutors for international students to provide help and support with their Japanese language, homework, and cultural adjustment. One tutor will be arranged for each international student in this program. Eligible Students: First-year self-financed international students, transfer students, and exchange students.

We held a bowling match with foreign students in April, 2013.

We conducted a coach tour and visited Nametoko valley in the southern part of Ehime in May, 2014. We all enjoyed relaxing and strolling along the river.

We had a Tanabata party (Star Festival) in July, 2014. Both the Japanese and foreign students were excited at the games.
