Faculty information

Nurturing human resources who can succeed on the global stage, utilizing a variety of languages including Japanese, English and Chinese.

The Faculty of Global Studies encourages students to learn a broad range of subjects that are indispensable to cross-cultural understanding and global communication, while also honing the necessary language skills to succeed in Japanese and English (plus other) business environments. International students study alongside Japanese students, giving everyone the opportunity to discover and solve problems from a global perspective.

Faculty of Global Studies– what makes us stand out!

■ Towards a new way of learning! All students in the Department of Global Communication study abroad.
The Department of Global Communication has implemented an ‘All Students Study Abroad’ curriculum that requires all international and Japanese students to spend 5 months studying in America during the first semester of their second year.
Each and every student is provided with the opportunity to hone practical language skills, cross-cultural communication skills and become more globally minded. The university supports students with finding accommodation, visa applications, travel tickets and other things needed to prepare before and during their 5 months studying abroad. (Additional fees for the study abroad program are required.)

■ Department of Global Business - Learning about Business in English
Through international students and Japanese students studying business and management related courses in English the department aims to equip students with the ability to adapt and expose and resolve problems, as well as practical business and language skills, nurturing talented global individuals who can work in a broad range of fields on the world stage.

■ Department of Japanese Communication – nurturing Japanese language instructors who can convey Japanese culture to the international community.
This Department aims to nurture individuals with strong multicultural communication skills, a broad understanding of Japan, and who have the language and communication skills to clearly and accurately teach learners of Japanese. Students who complete the Japanese Language Instructors Course will receive a ‘Certificate of Completion’.

Global Leader Scholarship (for international students residing overseas)

■ The Faculty of Global Studies offers its own scholarship scheme, available to students in the Department of Global Business only, providing students with a tuition fee waiver between 30% and 100% for up to a maximum of four years.

Department of Japanese Communication
Nurturing human resources who have a strong understanding of the Japanese language and culture and who can work globally to promote Japanese language education and tourism.

Through a wealth of different subjects, the Department of Japanese Communication equips students with strong Japanese business language skills and multicultural communication skills. It aims to produce talented Japanese-speaking individuals who are successful on the global stage, using their knowledge to act as a bridge between Japan and their home country. Classes are roughly made up of half Japanese students and half international students, ensuring that students also acquire strong planning and teamwork skills as they participate in team projects about tourist spots around Japan and the tourism business. The department also offers a course for students wanting to become Japanese language instructors. Students will also learn about Japanese culture and subcultures, strengthening their communication skills through discussions and presentations and using these skills to convey the charm and appeal of Japan to the rest of the world.

Graduates from this department will see a future in a variety of areas, including as Japanese language instructors, and in positions within Japanese enterprises both domestically and globally.

Japanese language instructors both within Japan and overseas; staff in international educational institutions; global staff working in the trade, distribution, tourism, and service industries.

Department of Global Business
Nurturing talented individuals with specialist business knowledge who can contribute to global society.

In the Department of Global Business international students from around the globe study alongside Japanese students, using English as the common language as they acquire specialist knowledge in the areas of management and business. Courses are developed by a faculty with a wealth of knowledge and experience in the business world. Students are also able to learn both Japanese and Chinese. In addition to acquiring the language proficiency and cross-cultural understanding skills that form the foundation of global business, students also study the fields of management, accounting finance and trade in English. This curriculum fosters a skillset necessary for a future in global business, including the ability to adapt and expose and resolve problems, as well as practical business and language skills. Students in this department do not need prior knowledge of the Japanese language at the time enrollment. They will however be expected to gain a certain Japanese proficiency over the course of their study.

■ Examples of future career prospects
Job with an international organization, international work for a Japanese-affiliated company or foreign firm in Japan, or employment with a global company dealing in trade, finance, manufacturing etc.

Department of Global Communication
Cultivating the global thinking, knowledge, skills and mindset necessary to become successful in a multi-lingual and multi-cultural society.

The Department aims to nurture tri-lingual human resources who have mastered two non-native languages out of Japanese, English and Chinese, and who are capable of working in a global environment. Japanese students and international students study together on the same campus, experiencing multilingual and multicultural situations through project-based lessons and seminars that focus on group work. These experiences will help students gain a more flexible mind-set, acquire practical language, discussion and presentation skills, as well as an international education and strong multicultural awareness.
