92 Years of History and Tradition

Musashino University, founded in 1924 by the internationally known Buddhist scholar Dr. Junjiro Takakusu, is an institution rich in both history and tradition. With its roots in Buddhist-based human education, Musashino has evolved into a comprehensive university boasting 9 Graduate Programs and 16 Departments within 9 Undergraduate Faculties, including literature, science, medicine and the Faculty of Global Studies, which opened in April 2016.

Faculty information

In the Faculty of Engineering various engineering approaches are used to equip students with problem identification and resolution skills, cultivating talented individuals capable of building a sustainable society.

Students in the Faculty of Engineering use the concept of building a ‘sustainable society’ in their pursuit of expertise in the departments of Environmental Systems Science, Mathematical Engineering and Architecture. The Faculty cultivates the initiative, leadership and specialist skills needed to identify various problems, view them three dimensionally and successfully evaluate and analyze them.

What makes Musashino University’s Faculty of Engineering stand out?

 Studying the latest cases in environmental and architectural design in Tokyo, a city under the international spotlight.
Students are able to study the latest examples of infrastructure redevelopment, the design and construction of facilities and stadiums by famous architects, and other cases of urban planning as Tokyo gears up for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

‘Project’ Education Unique to Each Department

Environmental Project (Department of Environmental Science)
Through Project Based Learning students garner the ability to find the best possible solution for environmental issues that ‘don’t have an answer’.

Mathematical Engineering Project (Department of Mathematical Engineering)
This project nurtures the ability to use mathematical engineering methods to expose and resolve issues in a broad range of fields, such as logistics, virtual, transport, finance and securities.

Architecture and Design Project (Department of Architecture)
Students from all years participate in this project that utilizes the expertise of the faculty team and cultivates the perseverance, planning, practical-mind, energy and teamwork necessary to get the job done. This project has received high acclaim in contests and competitions off campus.

Producing environmental professionals steering society towards sustainability

The curriculum in the Department of Environmental Science combines the humanities and sciences, and students study a broad range of environmental and related subjects, from foundation courses through to practical problem resolution exercises. Through the unique ‘Environmental Project’, which sees students working with companies, government organizations and NPOs to carry out practical research into real-life environmental problems, the Department aims to foster talented individuals with the planning skills and drive necessary for a career in environmental management.

 Future Vision
Environmental Management System (EMS) at public company, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) manager, environmental consultant, science communicator, graduate school etc.

Department of Mathematical Engineering
Nurturing students who can apply mathematical engineering to help make our world sustainable from a broad perspective.

Students in the Department of Mathematical Engineering will use mathematics, physics and information science as a base to master the various mathematical engineering methods, such as mathematical modeling, simulation and data analysis. The Department aims to cultivate students capable of exposing the various problems in our society, and who have the practical abilities to resolve these problems, opening the way for our world to move into the future.

Department of Architecture
Cultivating a visionary mindset that uses the 3 keywords of building, space and environment for designing new architecture.

In the Department of Architecture students master architecture and design, learning from the foundations of design through to architecture and construction, while also honing their ability to resolve the many problems facing modern society. The Department of Architecture uses project-based classes to help nurture talented individuals who can use architecture and design as a successful link with our modern society.
