Welcome to the "Academy of Freedom"

Rikkyo University started its history in 1874 as a small boarding school teaching English language and Bible studies. Rikkyo today has retained its tradition of education based upon humanistic values and Christian concern for others. The University has graduated over 170,000 students and currently operates two campuses in Ikebukuro and Niiza, both conveniently located within the vicinity of the metropolitan Tokyo area, with more than 20,000 students. The University offers academic programs in undergraduate and graduate levels with a wide variety of subjects, such as biomedical science, cinematic arts and social design, throughout its 10 colleges and 14 graduate schools. Exchange students can be enrolled in the Japanese language program and Japanese Studies in English courses.

Rikkyo University offers tuition reduction to privately financed international students who have a ‘College Student’ resident status after enrollment, and who may otherwise financially struggle to pay academic fees. The tuition fee reduction for academic year 2017 is 30%. Please note that the reduction system and rate are subject to change year to year. Students who are currently on a leave of absence or who have exceeded the standard number of years of study are not eligible for tuition fee reduction.
Of the academic fees, the ‘Tuition Fee’ and ‘Amenities Fee’ are part of a sliding scale system and will be calculated annually in view of progress in education and research conditions and inflation rates during a student’s period of study.

Autumn Examination:
If you want to answer in another language than Japanese, please request it by a document (A4 size, a free form) at the application. You can select English, Chinese, or Korean language.
Oral examination might include questions about proficiency of foreign languages based on your study plan which would be submitted in advance.

Spring Examination, General Examination:
Please submit 3 copies of your graduation thesis or equivalent thesis at the application. If the thesis is written in another language than Japanese, please put a synopsis of about 4,000 letters in Japanese. The submitted thesis will be a material for selection.
