Industrial Design

Designing points of interface between human beings and engineering.

Industrial design is the pursuit of product development with emphasis on both function and design in response to advanced and diverse consumer needs. Design work is usually carried out using CAD (Computer Aided Design) software. This technology has become essential for many applications using free-form design, such as in the creation of complex, streamlined forms for automobiles, the creation of symmetry in objects, implementing modifications of parts, and to enlarge or shrink components. Advances in scientific technology has allowed more free-form and imaginative product design. Going forward, product development will be able to better reflect the diverse needs of consumers. At the same time, there is a growing need to consider the environment in design, such as by incorporating reusable materials in products, as well as for the development of products that can be used by anyone through the application of universal design concepts. It is important that designs are not only functional and aesthetically pleasing, but address environmental problems and trends of an aging society as well.
